What's New Wednesday - a gaggle o'ottomans

Location. Location. Location.

Yes, being in the design district certainly adds interest to our inventory and daily activities.  The area is well known for  being one of the first design decorative centers outside of New York City as a result of Trammel Crow's vision in the 1950's.  Design showrooms, typically open to The Trade only are tucked into spaces such as the Decorative Center, the International and the Dallas Design Center.

Also, tucked away in the design district are scores of craftsman, furniture builders and upholstery shops who in "better times" kept their crews busy and their rents paid by serving the showrooms and designers in the area.   Keyword: better times.

As of late, we have had many talented craftsmen pull into our parking lot with vans filled with pieces created to supplement their businesses during this slower economy.  One such van pulled in a couple of weeks ago with a darling pale blue velvet ottoman that has captured every one's attention and even created a mini smack-down over it on facebook.

This week, more ottomans (a gaggle as Kate affectionately refers to them) a sofa, a wingback and an amazing mirror that would be fabulous in so many places.

This week's What's New is random as you have come to expect - but with a feel good twist.  Seems like we're helping others in a new and different way this week.  In addition to our constant attempts to provide you with amazing pieces priced at great values (for your hard earned dollars) we are also helping bridge the gap for many talented craftsmen who have found LHO as an outlet for their talents and an inlet for additional income.

Also - by popular demand we have rec'd several new industrial pieces which made interesting wall decor or table toppers!

Here's what's new...enjoy!

Thanks again for the support, compliments and referrals you give so generously! We appreciate them  very much.

Triple D - Drive, Dine and Decorate

Hope you have today off and can enjoy an extra bonus day to your weekend.  If so, and you're looking for activities we have a few suggestions in the Dallas Design District.  Actually, we've created a "route"  to make things easy!

First stop:  Mama's Daughers' Diner for breakfast or lunch for a little comfort food indulgence.   If you're on a diet, just don't order the home made pie for dessert and you'll be fine.

Located on Irving Blvd just north of Turtle Creek.  The link below will take you
to their site with menu and location.  My personal favorite:  Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn.  YUM!  The home made rolls and corn bread are delish.

Next Stop:  LHO, we are OPEN today and our SALE is in full swing.  Items with stickers now earn an 25% off the lowest marked price.   Plus, some items have been further reduced to make room for new merchandise.  We are bursting at the seams with great inventory, the front of store is as full as I've seen it in awhile.  Today we are taking in a custom sofa, more ottomans and our animal hides are being restocked.  This weekend we received a darling 1950's box/console type television in pristine condition and several industrial pieces which make amazing wall decor groupings.  Spiders, wheels and tractor seats are our favorites!

If you're wanting to explore the Design District further, here are more of our favorites:

Located on Howell St - they are known for
the unusual

In their New Location!  Having moved after 40 years on Fairmont Street
they are now just a few blocks from LHO on Riveredge

If you're still up for more exploring there is a gob of antique stores on Riverfront Blvd (formerly Industrial Blvd) such as White Elephant, Lost, Found, City View and Lots of Furniture.

Formerly of Lovers Lane...you will now find both SMINK and ANTEKS on Dragon Street.

IF after all this shopping you're in need of a little pick-me-up snack you might try the $1.40 Fuel City Taco's on lower Industrial, this place rocks!  I recently introduced my sweet hubs to Fuel City Tacos and you can see by the photo he was a little suspect at first glance.  Trust me.

Pastor, Picadillo and Barbacoa I can vouch for...
all with corn tortillas and extra salsa

Enjoy your day off...hope we see you.

We have a winner...

Thanks to all who played along this week, sharing your Super Bowl Commercial
 likes and dislikes.

The opinions were varied and had the Roseanne Barr/Snickers commercial in both
the BEST an WORST category.  I'd missed that one...so I pulled it up this morning and posted it below.

Our winner of the $50 VISA gift card
was selected using the old fashioned random drawing pulling our winner from a USA baseball cap.

Congratulations:  GRIG!

Grig's feedback on the commercials:

"My favorite commercial was Chrysler's - the one with Eminem. It was beautifully shot and had a great message."

WATCH the Chrysler Commercial Here

Honorable Mention goes to VW and Darth Vader.  Not only did most of you put this in your LIKE category, it's received over 27,802,000 views on YouTube
So cute!

Thanks to all who played and commented on the post.

We love your feedback and welcome comments and opinions always!

Happy Sunny Saturday,

Cindy

Cabin Fever Relievers...

If you're anything like me, you've had it up to HERE with this weather.  These images were taken this past Saturday as we were driving to Canton for First Monday.  It took us 2 1/2 hours to drive what I've made in 50 minutes many times.  The line of vehicles stacked up on both the eastbound and westbound sides of 1-20 was anything but encouraging!

Cars, trucks and 18 wheelers were all in need of assistance.
I hope you were smarter than we were and stayed home!

Once in Canton the void of the outside vendors could only be
described as stark.  Many who had braved the cold on Thursday and
survived the snow of Friday were taking advantage of the sun and packing up!

The news from LHO was not much better, we were closed most of the week and several of our consignment delayed due to interference from Mother Nature.  Therefore, What's New Wednesday is a little sparse this week, but never fear we have deliveries scheduled over the next few days.  Also, if you or someone you know has furniture/furnishings they want to sell send them our way!  Have them email photos and brief descriptions to:  sold@LHOConsignment.com

Here's what's new along with some spring inspiration below.  Enjoy!

Imperial Beauty!  x 2
$599.00 for the pair

Cranberry Crush!  Queen Anne would love this chair
$400.00

Juan Michel Frank (?) 1960's classic
$350.00

We've been getting alot of calls on Ms. El Paso Trading Co
Here's the 411:
$600.00
Dimensions:  H 30" x W 68" x D 34"

Delayed due to weather:   Italian Leather - Down filled
Should arrive next week!

Weirs LIKE new love seat  $450.00
also scheduled for delivery next week

The Lake Art (maps) in our Vintage Sign Collection have recently become a big seller for us in Canton.
New this month is the Lake Palestine Map
If you are not familiar Lake Palestine is  located just south of I-20
between Canton and Tyler in the Piney Woods of East Texas
Sizes:  17x23, 23x31 and 28x38
Maps Available in Wood or Metal

East Texas is such a beautiful part of the state and there are several great lake candidates
for weekend lake houses if you happen to be in the market.
(it's fun to look even if you are not in the market!)
We found this great Lake Palestine lake house for sale on lakehouse.com....seems like a good value
Priced at  $285,000.00 For Sale By Owner

Another charming east Texas lake just to the east of Lake Palestine is Lake Tyler.
Couldn't you just stare at this all day long?  I think I might!!

Enjoy dreaming with us.

Cindy
