It's Giveaway Day at ThePioneerWomanCooks.com

Meet Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman

First of all, thank you facebook!  Had it not been for one of my "friends" posting her families delight with her dinner choice and the  recipe for Mushroom and Swiss Sliders back in the summer I may never have discovered The Pioneer Woman.  What a shame that would have been!

Her recipes are never fail, her content and photography is aw inspiring and her sense of humor right up my alley.  She's generous with her knowledge, her life experiences and her gifts; as demonstrated in today's post Giveaway Day where she's giving away not one but THREE of these candy apple red Kitchen Aid stand mixers, a set of end-all be-all knives and fabulous HP Photosmart eStation All-In-One printer.

Can you say Merry Christmas?

As you'll see when you visit her site, Ree describes herself as a desperate housewife. She lives in the country. She channels Lucille Ball, Vivien Leigh, and Ethel Merman.

Should Ms Drummond and I have the chance to meet we can compare stories about living on the ranch and cooking.  I was raised in a ranch-rodeo family in the middle of no-where Montana, also known as Geyser, Montana.  At age six (6) I was often given a choice between herding cattle or staying home (by myself) to cook lunch for the crew.  Typically I chose to stay home and cook lunch, standing at the stove on top of a dining room chair to reach the controls and monitor the meal.
I have to say, I made a pretty darn good pan fried T-Bone steak back then.

Geyser, Montana

Yep, this is me headed out on a day I didn't get to stay home and cook!

Love ya Dad, wouldn't trade my heritage and history for all
the Kitchen Aid mixers in the world. . .but
I would love to win one!

Family Vacation "Cedar Creek Style"...

We recently had the opportunity to meet Jeff Nelson, owner of Nelson's Landing in Gun Barrel City.  Jeff made a point to seek us out earlier this month in Canton and then recently dropped by LHO to check out the store.  As we were talking I realized he owned a very cool vacation home on Cedar Creek that I had happened across online several times.  So under the heading of sharing and social networking take a look at Nelson's Landing.

Ray and I have this habit of planning our next vacation while on vacation or visiting friends and family; if you find yourself in this situation over the next couple of weeks, check out Nelson's Landing.  It's the perfect place for a family reunion - something for everyone of all ages and only minutes away from shopping in GBC and less than an hour from Dallas.

Unfortunately, this spectacular Cedar Creek vacation home is booked until after the first of the year; thank goodness it's never too early to start planning your next vacation!

Uncle Eddie:  Clark, how'd you score this place for our Christmas vacation?  Your Christmas bonus must have been a good one this year!

Clark:  The real question is how did you and cousin Catherine find us here at Nelson's Landing?

Last two posts....? Invasion of the hackers

Please accept our apology if you happened to receive two random posts within a short time period.  Apparently our site has been the playground of some random hacker over the past 24 hours.  We have hired security which should resolve the issue and keep intruders from annoying us.  :-)

What's New Wednesday!

Happy December y'all!

As I have been thinking about his week's blog post I've been pondering something...

Is it (Women are from Venus) human nature or social conditioning which makes us feel like we want to spit shine our shacks before company arrives?  If you're like me, you start looking around the house and all of the sudden that empty wall stands out like a sore thumb.  The love seat in the family room should really be a sofa...all of these things which I have lived with for months, now seem like items to be placed at the top of my "to do" list prior to Christmas.

I know I'm not alone because I've had this conversation with many of you over the past couple of weeks as you shop for an additional chair, an area rug, some lamps for the guest room or a mirror for the powder room.  Regardless of the root cause...we hope you are finding the perfect pieces to give you peace as your company begins to arrive this holiday season.

Here's What's New at LHO this week:

This is a great drop front wine cabinet...double click
on the photo to bring up the "enlarged" size to view the shelves and wine X
in the bottom and drawers at the very top.

                                                         Counter top display

Leatherette stacking trunks - okay, these are not
a new item, but I love them!  Why haven't
                                                      they sold???

Nice little curio with glass shelves could easily be re purposed as a bar

                                             Very Restoration Hardware-esk

Fill in the holes with new accessories

Art and Mirrors - currently we have a good selection of both

Large Metal Texas Flag  - the manufacture is discontinuing
this item.  It's weird, but they didn't really sell that well anywhere other
than Texas!  Imagine that?  We have the remaining 7 flags.
Perfect for the porch, pool house, dockominium or lake house.

What else is new?

We have a new friend and an excuse (as if we really need an excuse) to visit Austin!  Meet Lisa B. Gaynor, Proprietor of Design it with Consignment in Austin, Texas.

Lisa happened to be in Dallas on Tuesday and made a special effort to visit LHO Design & Consign.  She introduced herself as "a fan from afar"... it seems Lisa found us a few months ago as she was noodling around on the web and has been keeping tabs on us since.  This is high praise coming from one of the leading resale entrepreneurs in the country.  Check out her website and be sure to include a visit to Design it with Consignment during your next jaunt to Austin!

I'm looking at my calendar for possible road trip dates...I'm thinking after the Holidays to be sure I visit Lisa in her new store.  The link below shows both locations.
